Dundrum

Dublin, Ireland

Dundrum (Dún Droma in Irish, the ridge fort), originally a town in its own right, is now a suburban village and district in the county of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. The area is located in the postal districts of Dublin 14 and Dublin 16. The ancient name for Dundrum is "Taney" and the name is taken to mean "The Church of Nathi". In 1971, Dundrum was one of the earliest places in Ireland to open a purpose-built shopping centre (the first being in Stillorgan). A much bigger shopping centre opened in 2005. Known as Dundrum Town Centre, it is one of Europe's largest capital city-based shopping centres with over over 160 tenants ranging from high fashion to restaurants to a cinema.
