Not sure it's exactly what it says on the tin but that's a good thing. This place has been transformed (thankfully) and now churns out high quality food in a relaxed setting. The menu is limited but allows for speicialities like the steak and pork (fancier terms rightly used on the menu) and of c...

With a good deal of a burger, chips and a drink for a tenner, I can recommend this spot for lunch. The burger was satisfying and there were no difficulties with service (though admittedly it was quiet at the time). There are tables outside with big heaters for cold smokers, while the interior is...

Really good Thai food take out joint (though there appears to be some seating if you can't wait). I overheard the owner talking about how fresh the ingredients are and certainly the food tastes that way. The menu is extensive and aswell as a multitude of starters, you can pretty much get any wok ...

Perfect for families and drinkers (its also beside Smyths pub), there is seating outside which is well protected from the road by trees. Easy to get parking though may have to pay. Inside is plai...

Just as you're heading in to town to carry out some red paint damage you might pass this little place (opposite Renards). It's definitley worth a trip in to get your tins - two lads there are very helpful and there is some kind of time machine that mixes the paints to whatever colour you can thin...

Cosy and Clean, a traditional pub without frills. They get the important bits right - good Guinness, comfortable seating and a quiet reserve of bacon fries and crisps.

I hadn't heard of this place but checked it out after receiving a voucher. Downstairs has golf clothes and shoes while clubs can be found upstairs. Prices were competitive so I tried out a few drivers. There is a helpful pro who will let you try out the clubs on a simulator. I also note that he ...

Located on the corner which looks handy but not if you're driving - you need to scramble up onto the pavement to park your car less illegally. They do a deal if you have six shirts or more (so you won't have to lose your shirt). They also cater for dry cleaning (i.e. drop it down the road) but be...

Sportsco has almost everything you would need from a city centre Gym/Leisure centre. It is slightly hidden beside Shelbourne Park and for the past 18 months has undergone major plastic surgery. The main building's' bulkier physique has allowed for a bigger gym (which can get busy from 5pm to 7 pm...

In hindsight it might send out the wrong signals bringing your staff on their Christmas party to a place called "Fire". Having said that everyone had a great time and the service we experienced was top notch. The venue would seem to suit larger crowds and is well positioned for a one-two with a r...

Lunch time in the rat race can be tiring but this is one of the better spots along Sandwich Row. It is split in two for seating and take away but both are tiny. The staff are quick (important) and pleasant (bonus) and the food is fresh. Get the wrap special. Not cheap but cheerful.

The Odeon is a well established stop on the booze track (sorry no more train puns) with a bar as wide as a train station (last one)- making it easy for all to grab a pint or cocktail before any whistles are blown. Downstairs caters for first class trendspotting for customers seeking space and ca...

Very accessible cash point on a corner of the main Bank of Ireland branch. Nearby double yellow lines means there are no parking problems and a large roof gives welcome protection. Of course if there is a queue during the day, you are better off walking into the bank where they have two pass mahc...
read moreGood down to earth Guinness pub. Really solid. Across the road is Bruxelles if you want fat frogs and goths. Here it's more mad dogs and moths. Grab a stool. Don't look for any fuss, you won't find any.

read moreThis is a "watering hole" in the middle of Ballina. It is grim. It smells of toilets (on the plus side the toilets offer a reprieve in that you can stick your head out of a small window above the urinals). They had no ice, clearly not expecting intruders on a Saturday night. We did find a Piano (...

It's also a short walk to Times Square and the Theatre District. The rooms are small but clean (in fact we got ...

First impressions are that this place is basic but spacious. The staff were efficient and entertaining. If you order a coke, you get it in a can (I like that). The food was a bit slow maybe because they felt the need to overcook my burger (I don't like that). I hear the Italian wine is good - ...

Went here last night with a group of fourteen. Service was good and the staff were friendly and accommodating. There was a wide range of dishes and most people enjoyed their courses. I went for the Bangers & Mash which, though priced at 14 euro, wasn't overly impressive. Some of the main courses ...
