I'm going to begin by saying everything started off so well... I was delighted to discover (what I believe to be) a new Italian Café on the top floor of the Powerscourt Centre. It was lunchtime, we got a great table beside the balcony, the tables were all dressed with red table cloths and there were chalk boards with the day's specials posted on them... perfecto! The menu read well: soup, panino, espresso... my kinda place! :) You could even build your own panino... which was cool. We both ordered soup and panino and the waitress helpfully pointed out that there was a meal deal that included soup, panino and coffee for €12.50... sweet! So I ordered an espresso there and then and my better half (not so wisely on this occasion) postponed hers until after the meal.

From this point on things didn't run so smoothly, the wrong panini were served-up... sent back.... wrong ones brought out again but this time they were within acceptable error limits so no more was said. Soup was good, panino was good, my coffee was good but it was when we ordered the other "meal deal" coffee (espresso) that all hell broke loose... apparently the meal deal's coffee should actually be instant coffee and not espresso, cappuccino, etc. as they are not included in the price. The Italian Manager came down and explained how she had already gone to the trouble of disciplining the waitress even though she was ill and had just been dumped by her boyfriend... I won't bore you any longer... although frustrated, the more the manager spoke, the more I was beginning to find the whole thing mildly entertaining - talk about a much ado about 30 cents! I asked her what type of coffee I would get if I ordered a coffee in Italy... the caveman trap was set and she fell for it... espresso she answered! Case closed... ordeal over...

In summary, nice setting, good coffee and food BUT QUESTION EVERYTHING!!!
