I ordered a cake from cakebox.ie and asked them to incorporate some candles into the design of the cake. They quoted me a price which I agreed to and I rang to pay a deposit. When paying the deposit I spoke to the girl on the phone I mentioned the candles again and she said she could source them for me. I assumed that that was ok and the candles would be on the cake. In my original email I mentioned the candles but she took it up the wrong way (which is ok) but when I was paying the deposit and speaking to her I mentioned the candles I directly asked her could she get them. At no point in the conversation did she say that they couldn’t do that so it was safe to assume that they would. The girl told me that she would ring me a few days before the event to talk me through the process of delivery. The day before the event I hadn’t heard from them, so I rang and the tone of voice suggested I was annoying or bothering her and I enquired about the candles and she was really weird she didn’t have the candles I wanted but said she had some other candles which was fine. I asked her to incorporate them into the design of the cake when the cake arrived there were no candles on the cake just a box of very ordinary candles chucked in with the box. That didn’t bother me because to be honest I was glad to see the cake because she was so weird on the phone I wasn’t sure it was going to arrive. When she took the balance for the cake she charged me extra for the candles at no point did she say there was an extra charge for the candles if she did I wouldn’t have got them . I asked her to refund the unauthorised charge ( as a point of principle) and she has spent the last 4 days arguing with me over this, I don’t like bad customer service so I am not letting this go. I feel like she expected me to be psychic and know loads of things about ordering a cake and their procedures which I don’t think is a reasonable thing to expect. I wish I saw these reviews before hand but I didn't until it was too late I hope my post helps someone else. I have to put a star rating on this but if I had a choice it would be no star. There are two positive reviews on this site by a person who has the same name of the person I was dealing with on the phone that is quiet a coincidence.

Having visited this shop yesterday, I ordered a cake for our wedding. The samples were frozen, so I had to taste at home, after making the order, and paying €100 deposit. The samples were not to my taste. I contacted the shop first thing this morning to cancel the order and ask for my deposit back. The shop manager called me back after speaking to the owner, to inform me that my deposit was non-refundable. She also informed me that I should have made an appointment to taste the cakes, even though I was not offered this service yesterday when in the shop. I am very disappointed and want to warn anyone out there who might get into this situation.
