Whenever someone asks for a good book shop in Dublin, I direct them to Chapters. Not only is it HUGE, but it also contains an amazingly eclectic collection of things to read. I have been able to find everything from the classics to previously banned fiction to your bestselling smut on these shelves, so I am sure everyone will be able to find something that interests them here. I'm always impressed by how the staff seem to know every book that's in that store... All I do is name a title or an author, and without even checking a computer they know where it is! And if it's not there, they'll order it for you.

Like some previous reviewers said, the only downside is that the return on the books you sell to them is quite low. And as great as the second-hand section is, sometimes it's just not worth digging through the piles and shelves for so long trying to find what you need. Most of the time I don't. Usually I just poke around upstairs when I am not sure exactly what I want. Something always seems to jump out at me then!

If you're looking for one of the best selections of books in Dublin, you can't really beat Chapters. It's apparently Ireland's biggest independent bookstore, and it definitely rivals Easons in terms of size and it definitely beats them in terms of the range of books on offer. They have genres of books that Easons can but dream about! Film criticism? Art? Graphic novels? Not a chance in Easons, but there are shelves and shelves of the stuff in Chapters.

The only flaw the place has (and it's not much of a flaw) is that half the store is given over to stocking and selling second-hand books, and while you can definitely find some gems in there, there's a lot of fluff that you have to dig through. But the staff there are superb, they really know their stuff and if they haven't got a book in stock they'll always try and order it in for you. This place is always my first stop when I need any book!
