Went into Dublin from the country to buy an antique piece for my daughters entry way for her new house. I was told of a few places around the city (which there seem to be many of, you'll know them by the fancy spray painted gold and silver velvet chairs) I went to nearly all of them. First of all may I add that they have some very beautiful pieces of furniture, but beware, THEY ARE NOT ANTIQUES!! Signs on their store front may say antiques but furniture is far from it, THEY ARE REPRODUCTIONS and this what they don't tell you when you are buying.

What really gave it away was the very strong smell of wood stain in the shoppe. This of course raised flags, if the furniture smelled of stain, then you probably would not want to store any clothing in any of the furniture. The guy even went so far as to tell me that the particular piece I was interested in was Mahogany, it was clearly not but I said nothing, I just nicely made my way out. If I had been told from that start "we sell reproductions of antiques at a fraction of the cost of an original"..that would have been a different story. When you are buying a piece of furniture that is meant to be an antique and it costs €300, if it seems to good to be true, well, you know the rest!

I found that in Dublin City the only Reputable Antique Dealers are found on Francis Street... we are talking hundreds if not thousands of euros for one single piece of furniture.
