Having lived, for many years close to and near Dundrum village and often have cause to shop or do other business in shops in the village, i feel compelled to offer my view of this location.
The village is very small, it is akin in many ways going back to the 1980s, it has that feel and it is rather shabby and run down, with many buildings vacant or closed up.
The plain fact is the Dundrum Town Center has surpassed and towers over the village, which belongs to a certain vintage.
Many shops in the village are very small and unique,
Alas it also has to be noted, the Town Center, also also draws in a large crowd and an undesirable element, which are often rude and rowdy, and not friendly, with some folk adopting a rather snobbish attitude.
The environs, around Dundrum are very middle class, middle aged, with an element who are very haughty and snobbish in their attitude and demeanour.
Have to say, this is not a place one would like to reside in and even visiting and passing through is often stressful and not a pleasant experience.
Though Dundrum was ever thus.
The old Shopping center, which is now badly run down and really an eye sore, is not a good advert for the village.
Alas, the new Town Centre, which does offer a vast range of shops and services, is also very large and over shadows the village and has other problems.
Sorry to have to say it, but i think it has to be said.
Some of the shops in the village are very good, the post office for instance and Lidl, is as usual excellent.
But the village, with the larger town center has a bad vibe and attracts a rather boisterous, wild crowd, which is not nice or good.
For the future, it would seem the town center will extend further down into the village and one would fear for the future of the village which will change totally, to become one large shopping area.
