Reviews for Giddy Goose Café
Write a Review Giddy Goose Café reviews feedI agree with other reviewers.... this looks so nice and inviting and the food was nice but the staff we met today had no charm. i brought my three kids as an end of summer treat. they sat quietly and were well behaved. the staff here didn't offer a single smile and hooshed us out, clearing the table too soon when they were beginning to get ready for a lunch corwd.
also found it very pricey. no kids options as far as we could see and certainly if they have them, the unfriendly staff couldnt be bothered to show us them.
very disappointing.
tried to email my feedback to the address but has bounced back.

This place remains to be one of my new fave places. Food is good, but would like some more specials and seasonal menu and the quality of produce could be improved but it is a fun, bright place for a nice afternoon. The only thing is where oh where has vannessa and the english girl gone? they are almost the reason I choose this cafe over the others. Have been in a few times the last few mondays and I haven't seen them, I just hope they are not working somewhere else.
Keep up the good work though guys
I was out viewing a house today with my two friends and decided on a bit of grub. This place had great window space and seemed busy so we went in. Lovely decor, and inviting menu. Our Waitress greeted us immediatly with eye contact even while busy serving another table. She sat us, pushed the tables together and brought us a bottle of water even though we hadn't asked. Good start.
We ordered the Chicken Paninies wich were lovely and a giddy goose club, (could have had more chicken). Even though busy, coffee came very fast and food not long after. Our waitress was Irish which is a nice change and very friendly. The woman behind the counter I can only imagine was the manager as not dressed in black was ok but not overly friendly. Their cakes looked yummy, must try next time. Over all very happy with the Giddy Goose and will def be back again. Just want to say a big thank you to our waitress as customer service is so often lost these days and she was a real gem
Entrance very inviting with A Board menu outside and fresh potted herb plants on either side of front door. Greeted with a smile by the male waiter. Visited 3.30pm 2nd of April 2011. Interior very bright colours, clean and warm atmosphere. Very good natural light. Toilets exceptionally clean.
I ordered two atlantic seafood chowders and a large bottle 750ml of sparkling water. The chowders costed €7.20 and the water was good value for €3.30. Their was a very good atmosphere in the cafe, as the majority of the tables were taken.
The chowder was served within ten minutes of ordering. the chowder was served with some brown bread. It was a cream based chowder with some vegetables and salmon. I was dissapointed that their was no other fish in it. Especially since they are located so close to a fishing port. ( five minutes away)
The chowder was quite bland but had a good consistency. We were courteous checked, but we are the worse type of customers. We said everything was fine.
But the lady taking our money was very nice and professional. I would go back again but would opt for the egg benedict. As someone across from me ordered this and were very happy with what they got.

Rude Service, cold draft from kitchen area, uncleaned table, Wifi not working,
What originally opened up as a quaint cafe about 18 months ago, has now lost all sense of customer service and the staff certainly do not appreciate your patronage.
The Giddy Goose has fallen into that misconceived notion, like many other cafes and restaurants in Dublin... this being, where you as a customer, are to give them your hard-earned money, put up with rude service and suffer this ridiculousness and return to give them your money again. Well, I will never go back to this place again. There are too many other places happy to serve customers.... one place for instance is The Sunshine Cafe not even 50 metres down from this cafe.
Was in there today 19-Feb-2011, Table was not clean, nor did they clean it before bringing me my order. I was trying one last time to allow this cafe to redeem themselves after the last incident of bad service three weeks ago. One waitress was polite, the others were simply dismissive, rude and obviously didn't care about anyone returning. About an hour before closing time, the staff opened a back door creating a very cold draft, thus freezing every patron in the cafe and making their coffees and food cold as well. I politely requested an employee to close the door as people were rubbing their hands together to keep themselves warm... and the response from the staff was, "You're Kidding Me?"
The waitress then promptly dropped the bill on my table saying they are closing soon. Even though the cafe had about 6 tables of patrons, she only served the bill to my table... Over 18 months of patronage to this cafe, I've never had a bill presented to me, one typically goes to the register to pay. In other words, she was basically stating, "Time for you to leave." Well, unfortunately, I have left and will not be returning. It takes more than a menu to make a good cafe.
Good service and politeness cost an establishment absolutely nothing to provide.
While the food is adequate, the service repeatedly falls down and leaves a distinctly sour taste..
Giddy Goose Overall Summary (Rated stars out of 5)
Coffee Quality - 3 Stars - OK to taste... but slow in coming. Sometimes you'll get your food quicker than the coffee.
Food Quality - 3 Stars... somethings are good.. somethings on then menu are not.
Portions: 3 Stars - slightly above average
Presentation of food on the plate: 3 Stars
Cleanliness - 1 Star - Needed to wipe down my table, but didn't before the food came out. Bathrooms needed cleaning. No towels to dry your hands.
Service - Zero Stars - can be very slow. Overall disappointing and repeatedly appalling. The last 3 visits have left a very sour taste due to individual staff members being rude, impolite or simply refusing a simple request due to personal issues. This is the deal breaker.
Decor / Environment - 2 Stars - Light, airy and newly decorated. Would be rated higher if my table was clean and cafe wasn't so cold.
Space (between tables) - 3.5 Stars - you're not too close to others... and you are not crammed into the space.
Water - 3 Stars - Filtered by the cafe themselves, bottled and chilled and free with orders. Would rate it higher but typically have to request water several times.
Comfort - No Stars - nice chairs and tables, but the draft from the Kitchen door being open was completely unacceptable and uncomfortable for most patrons in the cafe.
Menu Substitutions - 2 Stars - Hit and miss depending upon wait staff's mood that day.
Wifi - Zero Stars. As it wasn't functioning properly on 19 Feb 2011. Avg. Speed is adequate but not fast.. barely broadband.
A pet peeve of mine is, don't offer a service if you can't provide it adequately, WiFi needs to be working and operational if you are going to be a decent coffee shop / cafe in this town. Too many other places get it right with little to no effort or trouble.
Will I Return to this place or recommend it to others: A definite NO.

I was in today and I just want to say a big thank you! I really enjoyed my afternoon in the Giddy Goose. I have a two year old daughter and when I was trying to push my way in the door a very helpful member of staff opened the door and helped me locate a great table, brought me a high chair and even gave my daughter a book and some colouring pencils. This is a first for me. I have spent lots of time in the various places around the area and none have been this child friendly. The woman (I think is called Vivienne ) was so lovely and brought me a warming and one of the nicest Cappuccino's ever and a great slice of chocolate cake. I also had a bowl of very yummy soup as I didn't want to brave the rain outside again. The soup came with home made brown bread which was yummy. I really enjoyed my afternoon here and highly highly recommend it. The cafe was full of mothers like myself and men who seemed to be enjoying a cup of tea and some peace (apart from all our screaming children that is) and even though it was busy, Vivienne who was working on her own was charming, calm and very nice. Big thumbs up!
The Giddy Goose is my favourite cafe in Dun Laoghaire, great coffee and yummy pancakes! I usually go at the weekend and find the atmosphere to be nice and relaxed. Also, while I was enjoying coffee a few weeks ago a very handsome man arrived for lunch, Mr. blue and white shirt you know who you are!! I would definitely recommend it for a lazy Saturday afternoon.

I've heard some great things about this little cafe and some really bad, so decided to check it out. Yes it's in a great part of dun laoghaire and looks lovely. Our experience was great, so mush so that we went 3 times in one week and every time has been good. At the busy lunch period it can take a little longer to get our coffee and food, but it is simple and nice. The cakes were great but having read the reviews I have to say the service was fantastic. Not only did the girl serving us recognise us the second time we visited but she was very very nice and friendly and each time we have been here we had the same girl serving us. She was also Irish which is a pleasant surprise. Plus she had the most welcoming smile and amazing eyes and lashes, think my boyfriend was a little smitten. I heard this place had a total overhaul of staff and it seems to have worked. I would really recommend the giddy goose, not for fantastic food but good food and great cake and great staff.
I completely disagree, I love that caffe, last sunday on 5th July was not service but the kitchen problem, couse I was waiting for my breakfast long as well, the busy time is hard but i can see the staff is working hard and trying to do best.
Was out here yesterday and the place does look lovely and the food was really nice, but the service is absolutely, breathtakingly crap!
We ordered a club sandwich and an omelette, a bottle of water for two and a coffee. The sandwich, coffee and water (with only one glass, we had to ask for a second) came quickly enough but no sign of the omelette.
Eventually having finished my sandwich we had to ask about the omelette only to be told that it had been made and left to go cold and that the staff wanted to reheat it. We said we didn't want it and were offered a new one but by this time we were absolutely not in the mood.
Given all of this rubber you would think that the very least that they could do was offer to cut the coffee from the bill, but no...brazen as anything we were charged the unapologetic full whack of 13.25 for what we had received with the attitude seeming to be that this type of delay was completely business as usual.
Do not give these people your custom, every good review here speaks of the location and the premises as being the big selling points, but if a staff can't get two orders right on a VERY un-busy Saturday then there is something drastically wrong here. They even looked upset that I didn't tip...are you absolutely having a laugh?

I just googled this place to get their number and this website came up and I couldn't believe the bad reviews here. They must be talking about a different place or are competitors! It's a gorgeous place, with lovely food, and attentive friendly staff. Plain and simple.
Went there for first time after a local funeral and ordered coffee and a scone. We were starving but were never offered a menu so I assumed one did not exist. It was only half way through my baking powder scone that I noticed another customer asking for a menu and being handed one. There were only three tables occupied at this time, how could you forget to hand out a menu!! Coffee only passable. There is a nice atmosphere about this place so could do so much better.
I've been here a couple of times now and I really can't fault this place. The service is good (that said, I've never been there between 1 and 2), the staff are friendly and the espresso ain't half bad (for Bewley's coffee!). The food is also very good and I'd highly recommend the Goats Cheese salad - yum! If you're lucky enough to get one of the high chairs near the window, you'll have the perfect vantage point for a spot of people watching. A cheerful addition to a rather dull end of Dun Laoghaire!

Sad but true, the service in this pretty cafe is spectacularly bad.
The fact that I waited so long and the place was quiet was astounding to me.
They really need to smarten up the act as Dun Loaghaire can't carry anymore closed businesses.
I wish them well, but they seriously need to look at staff training.
I absolutely loved this place - from the cute name and the lovely way they've done the decor to the food and the service so I'm not sure if we were lucky or the other reviewers were unlucky but I would have nothing but good things to say about the place. I would say we were in and out, fed and watered all within about 45 minutes so the service was actually super speedy! Looking forward to going back.
Similar experience arrived at 1.35pm order taken at 2.05, coffee arrived first with cutlery told sandwiches would be ready in 4 mins. 2.20 no food arrived noticed someone else was given our order because they kicked up a fuss. Asked where our food was and pointed out we had been waiting 40 mins and was told we only ordered at 2.05 never mind the fact that we had waited 30 mins to place the order in the first place. Had to leave without food as nobody had any idea when we would get it. Appalling service and rubbish attitudes. Definitely won't be going back and this was my first visit. What a laugh!!!!!
Hi,
The Giddy Goose is definitely not under new management. While the cafe' is pretty and the decor rather lovely, the service is dreadful. I waited 20 minutes for a cappucino and when I asked where it was I was told that they knew about it but that nobody had made it just yet. The girl making coffee (and nothing else) was averaging about 4 cups an hour. Food arrived in no particular order. I watched a family of four get their meals; 2 arrived straight away and then the next two got their meals 10 minutes later, followed 5 minutes later with their cutlery. Tea arrived after they had nearly finished their meal. One of the members of staff did not have an apron on and his food stained white t-shirt was really rather much. One of the girls took her break at a table that would sit three people and sat there for an hour, while a young family waited at the door for a table. The greed of maximising floor space has meant that people come in and can't be seated but there is nowhere to wait and they hang about the door and become an obstruction and a hassle to other patrons. The service was slow, churlish and the staff have a real attitude problem. Dreadful.
I obviously had a complete different experience. Living in Monkstown it is right on my doorstep. I have dropped in a few times for lunch and also to get my coffee in the morning. not to exspensive and fast which is a bonus for me in the morning. Food is very good and the staff are all very friendly. Liked the whole feel of the cafe as it is warm and cosy inside. It was very packed over the weekend but added to the overall atmosphere. Think the management has changed recently. will defo be going back.

Very pleasant place to sit, but the service is truly appalling. Four of us went there for brunch on Saturday 12/12, we were there for two hours the vast bulk of which time was spent waiting for food. Each person was served separately, and only when they had finished their food did the next person's order arrive. Food arrived without knives & forks, and almost everything had to be asked for more than once. When I enquired, I was told that the manageress had come in for a coffee that morning and had then left for the day. The food itself was ok, but no more. It's a shame, but I won't be going back until the place is under new management.
