Just joined the gym at rialto herberton I would just like to say that I was very surprised when I went in. The facility is great got everything that you would need free weights, machine weights and great cv selection. They hold lots of different classes which are free to members and you get programmes done and updated included. They have sunbeds stand up and lye down ones, massage centre, hairdressers The pool area is very nice sauna steam and that kind of stuff. Very clean and it is quite cheap for what you get. It is great to see this kind of facility like it should be in dubi or something any just thought I would let people know what I thought

I think herberton is great... Maybe there is few things to be done( like anywhere else), but overall it's a great gym with good machines and weights. Pool is really nice, staff very friendly. They do many classes included in the membership. All of the broken machines were fixed just the other day...It's never too busy and you can pay monthly which suits me perfect...I'd definately recommend it...

The bad stuff: Way too expensive in terms of pay as you go. It's not very clean at all. There's little or no maintenance being done. Pretty much everything that gets broken is left broken, including machines. Some staff are very rude. All merchandise (locks, goggles, etc.) is overpriced. Sometimes the pools are too cold to get into. Gym strictly over 16s & under 16s aren't allowed in the pool before 9am or after 5pm. Not an even balance of machines (1 of some & 20 of others). Membership includes membership, NOTHING else.
The good stuff: Very cheap in terms of memberships. Occasionally good offers on things like gift vouchers. Gift vouchers available. Never too busy. Majority of staff very friendly. Top of the range machines with iPod docks. Close to me and parking & public transport all very close. Good facilities(Hydrotherapy pool, jacuzzi, etc. Pool nice and warm the majority of the time.

I go to this gym because it's only a 5 minute walk from where I live - and that's pretty much the appeal for me. It has good equipment and machines, is never too busy, and the pool is nice.

That said there are some things about this gym I do not like. The main issue for me is the changing and shower facilities. The showers are gross - the walls are covered in hair and if you accidentally touch the wall it's slimy or greasy to the touch, and today I pretty much reached my limit when I went into the shower and saw a used maxi pad stuck to the wall. The showers are fixed-temperature push-button so you have to have a hot shower, even if you're already hot and sweaty from exercising, then dress in the overly-warm changing area - I am always too sweaty to apply make-up after. Oh and the blow dryers broke about a month ago and have yet to be fixed, so you have to leave with soaking hair too. Additionally the toilets back up at least once a month, and there is NEVER handsoap in the toilets.

My other issue is the pool at the weekends pretty much is taken over by children, and never once have I heard a parent advise their child to try and stay out of the way of lap swimmers. And these kids are of the noisy, splashing, in-your-way-and-totally-oblivious variety, whose parents look at you as though you've come over to swim laps at their private pool uninvited.

I will say though, in general the other gym-users are respectful, which makes a big difference to me - discounting one larger man who has followed me into the sauna twice now, and whoever left their maxi pad on the wall of the shower.

In summary this place will do, but if you are looking for a clean gym, look elsewhere! And keep your children and floaty toys to one side of the pool.
