The Irish Stock Exchange (“the Exchange”) is a key element of the financial infrastructure of Ireland. It's roots stretch back to 1793 and formed as a result of a merger between the Cork and Dublin exchanges. In 1799, the Dail (Irish Parliament) passed the Stock Exchange Act to help regulate it. Then in 1973, the Irish exchange merged with the other British and Irish stock exchanges to become a member of the International Stock Exchange of Great Britain and Ireland (now known as the London Stock Exchange). The Irish Stock Exchange as it currently stands was established in 1995, breaking it's link with London. In 2000, the Irish Stock Exchange closed its famous trading floor in Anglesea Street, (Temple Bar) and switched to an electronic trading platform.
