John Kavanagh's lays claim to being the oldest family pub in Dublin - it was established in 1833 and the current family are the 6th generation in the business. Also known as 'The Gravediggers' because of its location next to the Glasnevin cemetery and its attached folk history, this is a genuine Victorian bar, totally unspoilt - and it has a reputation for serving one of the best pints in Dublin. No music, "piped or otherwise". Theme pub owners eat your hearts out.

Food here is great! Served in the lounge from 1-3pm and later tapas from 6-8.30, you'd be hard pushed to spend alot and the amount of food is wonderful, all fresh so when it's gone it's gone! Also note, no credit cards or Laser, but the menu is very reasonable as too the wine price, no bookings and they do fresh oysters on a friday. Great spot, no Tv thank God! no piped muzik...hooray! good food great pints and old fashioned chat. The bar is a must, it's featured in so many t.v and film productions they've lost count, and it's like going back in time, they don't do bar stools either, love this spot!
