Hats off to Lidl, they know how to do cheap! Mind you, it comes at a price (so to speak...).

The thing about Lidl is that although the prices are rock-bottom, so is the service and the products generally aren't all that. You can get some brand products at great prices, and a few decent tasting non-brand products too, so it's definitely worth wandering in, but the problem is that there's an Aldi directly across the road which is just as cheap (if not cheaper), and the non-brand stuff tends to be even nicer. The other thing about Lidl is that it just has such a Ryanair feel to it. Everything's in gaudy colours, the staff look like they'd rather buried up to their worms than be at work and I can't help but feel that it's the kind of place that would do anything to pinch a penny and crush the competition. Of course, like Ryanair, if you know what you're at you can get some great bargains, so it's definitely worth a look in, but don't be surprised if you spend 80% of your time in there queuing to pay. Unless you're going in for something specific, do yourself a favour and go across the street to Aldi.
