The most recent addition to The National Gallery of Ireland complex is the Millennium Wing opened in January 2002. Designed by London based architects Benson & Forsyth and located on sites purchased by the Gallery in 1990 and 1996, the new wing introduced a new, second public entrance to the gallery from the busy thoroughfare of Clare Street in Dublin. It also plays host to major exhibitions.

Popped in here once while on a tour de museums, and absolutely loved it! Now the National Gallery is impressive already, but this new wing adds a lot to it. I thought I wouldn't like the modern look, but it works. Essential stop for anyone interested in art!

The National Art Gallery's makeover has really brought it into this century, mixing some really nice modern architecture with the beautiful, older building where the majority of the work is housed. The gallery's lost none of its grandiose style, but rather it's been augmented and improved upon with this new wing. It also includes a gift shop with some surprisingly good quality stuff and a really nice café where you can relax and take a load off after seeing Ireland's treasure-trove of art!
