I hadn't been here in....well I can't remember being there before, but am assured by my mother that I was dragged there kicking and screaming, (ah, my 20's)

I was amazed by the place. It was magnificent. The variety of greenhouses, and the variety of plant life was wonderful.

It was lovely to rediscover a part of my own city again

If you are looking for some place a little bit different for a walk, then the Botanical gardens is the perfect place to go. We strolled down there on a Sunday afternoon last week. The grounds expand alongside the Tolka River, and are divided into different sections such as the rose garden, organic fruit & vegetable garden, woodland, amongst others. There are also three large glasshouses which are quite spectacular in their own right, and also handy to hide in from the rain!

We started off with some lunch in the visitor centre, which had a good selection of food and a nice view of the largest glasshouse.

The gardens also appear to be a favourite of families with small children, especially the sun-flower maze!
