Raters say we are...  restaurant, donnybrook, casual

After reading positive online recommendations, we decided to try O'Connells. When we arrived the restaurant was extremely busy. Additional tables had been put out, making the space cramped. We were surprised that the starters consisted almost entirely of a self-service buffet, just a small side plate to choose from a selection of mostly vegetarian salads. Chowder was offered as an alternative, so I opted for that. After 15 minutes waiting, I was told that the chowder actually wasn't available. The main courses were good, with plenty of side dishes provided. However, the dessert was small and tasteless. As with the starter, it was definitely over-priced for what was on offer. The staff were pleasant, but very disorganised. We were repeatedly asked for our orders by different members of staff, when we had already ordered. O'Connells seems to be trying to replicate the food and atmosphere of a traditional Irish rural pub. But it's hard to justify above-average Dublin restaurant prices for a basic "pub food experience", so we would be quite unlikely to return.

Newly opened. The staff were helpful and friendly.

The food was fresh and good, and the atmosphere was casual and inviting.

A good price to chill with work people or family.
