Pink was set up in 1984 by three Irish brothers – James, Peter and John Mullen. Their idea was to reinvent the traditional Jermyn Street shirt, taking it to a wider, aspirational audience. The brand name Thomas Pink came from an 18th century London tailor known for making sought-after red hunting jackets. If you were lucky enough to own one, you were said to be ‘in the pink’!

I went to Pink with a friend today who was looking for a nice fitted formal shirt. We were shopping around to see if anyone could rival what we'd seen in Brown Thomas. I suggested we go here because a) I figured the BT price would easily be beaten and b) I'd been passing this shop for years and wanted to go in.

My conclusion from the experience is that I won't go back.

Firstly I didn't care too much for the stock. I formed the opinion that this place is not for the smart young man, but rather the fat middle aged solicitor who hopes to substitute fashion sense with expense labels.

Secondly the prices were not good. Not at all competitive.

We went back to BTs which was the clear winner on both of the above counts.

But what really got to me (so much so that I registered here just to review!), was the service.

It wasn't outright rude, but it wasn't good. I very much felt that our custom was not desired on account of our, admittedly, very casual appearance. Again BTs seemed able to look beyond that (and as a result sold just under €1k worth of suit and accessories!). The guy that served us was just a bit sneery I felt. It wouldn't have been as bad if his own suit wasn't so obviously cheap and ill-fitting, and his cheap shoes so dirty! (who was he to be casting judgement on us I felt).

Anyway, it was my first and last experience of Pink. There are many other places to shop in the area which win on quality, price and service.
