Sand bar use to be great before it was revamped. The food was great, especially the chicken sandwich and meatball sandwich. It was great value, not any more. They don't allow buggies in- not even when the place is totally empty! The last time i was there it was a really nice day so they were busy. We were sitting outside, it took us twenty minutes to get a menu. When i went inside to the till to ask the waitress if i could order after another 20 she told me i could only order from my seat. 50minutes after arriving we finally got to order. Our food came. My carbonara was nice but the bacon was 80% fat 20% meat. I had nearly finished my food and my drink still had not arrived so, i asked the old small guy. On his way to get it he stopped for a chat with several customers, I really couldnt believe it. 10 minutes later it arrived, after i had finished my food. It was very bad, i might try it again as i am hoping it was just a once off, but they have missed at least 10 visits from me in the last year because of their "no buggies" rule.

Dropped in here with Mother and kids one evening around the 6 oclock mark. Place quite busy for midweek, which gave us a good indication of its popularity. However, upon looking at the menu, a bit distressed to read the rule that a main course per person must be ordered after 5pm. Given that we had come for our "tea" and not for dinner, this was not an option for the party. Given the demeanor of the premises, I would have assummed it to be more of a cafe rather than a restaurant, and was therefore surprised by this rule. Upon deciding to leave, we were approached by the nice waitress who asked was everything ok? When we explained our predicament, she told us to order what we want and not to worry. But why have it on the menu in the first place? We stayed, and ordered pizza, chicken wings, chips and salads. The food was delicious, the service excellent, and the ambiance cosy and cheerful. Everybody was satisfied, and the bill was very fair! I just feel that they are selling themselves short by having the 5 oclock rule printed on the menu, because had I read that online, or been told about it beforehand, I would have stayed away, and given the fantastic earlybird menus out there, I would have had plenty of options!
