While located about thirty-five minutes away from Dublin's city centre, Shanganagh Park is within easy striking distance from most of south county Dublin. Until the other day, I had only experienced this park from the eyes of a 30-year old man but seeing my 6 and 12 year old cousins playing here last weekend I feel I'm now qualified to write a review from both perspectives. From the eyes of a grown-up, the setting is perfect, the park stretches from the main Bray road right down to the sea. The foothills of the Dublin mountains are also visible from it which makes for an interesting walk or jog. It's really great for joggers as there's sign-posts telling you how far (or how little!) you've run and beside each sign there's an optional exercise regime for you to do (like monkey-bars to swing on, etc.) which I thought was a bit different. There's also a big car park so parking isn't a problem. Now for the kids take ... the playground is really pretty cool - the selection of slides, see-saws, swings and climbing frames is what I could have only dreamed about as a kid - I feel a little bit cheated actually! There's also a large number of open spaces and playing fields (with goal posts) which makes it a great place to kick around a football, etc. So whether you've got kids or not, Shanganagh Park has got something for everyone.
