Sheridan's Cheesemongers was founded in 1995 by the brothers Seamus and Kevin Sheridan, when they started selling Irish farmhouse cheeses from their stall at the Galway Saturday market. They soon opened their first shop in Galway, with Irish farmhouse cheeses piled from floor to ceiling. As the speciality food sector in Ireland grew, so too did Sheridan's Cheesemongers. In 1997, they opened their distinctive shop on South Anne Street in Dublin City Centre in 1997. Also in 1997 the Sheridan Brothers teamed-up with a third partner, Fiona Corbett and together were one of the founding stall holders of the now infamous Temple Bar Saturday Market.

Once you acclimatise to the overpowering smell in this place, there's fantastic cheeses to be discovered here. You'll also be greeted by helpful and extremely knowledgeable staff who will offer you a little taster of each cheese before you make your selection. On my most recent trip here, I was looking for an Italian cheese called Scamorza, a close relative of mozzarella. Of course, when I finally got around to asking for the cheese I couldn't remember it's name! However this didn't put the staff off one bit (as they obviously saw this as just a bit of a challenge), a large encyclopedia of cheese was produced and while I spurted out buzz-words and random anagrams of the correct name they calmly pointed to pictures of the most likely fits. Thanks to their expertise, we soon had the mystery solved and I left a very satisfied customer (with a big cheesy grin on my face) - four stars from me!

Keywords: cheese, experts, smelly, helpful
