The Great South Wall (also sometimes called the South Bull Wall) took some fifty years to construct and was finally completed in 1795. It was the world's longest sea-wall at the time of its building and still remains one of the longest in Europe.

I'm hesitant to write about my favourite place in Dublin in case it becomes any more popular. But I'm not a selfish girl! Summer evenings bring fishermen, photographers, walkers and dawdlers out for the view of Dublin Bay earned when you reach Poolbeg Lighthouse. I like to savour the walk and start on the pier, but the exercise conscious should start from Sandymount Strand.
I wanted to take advantage of the nice weather over the weekend so I took a spin down here on the back of Laura M.'s review.
It's a great spot for a walk, jog, cycle or even a spot of fishing! Plus, you get a really different perspective of Dublin. The surface is a little uneven so it's a good idea to wear a comfortable pair of shoes.
The stretch from the end of Sandymount Strand to South Bull Wall is perfect for walking the dog. There is a dirt track the whole way along the edge of the beach. The sound of traffic from Beech Road cannot be heard. There are great views of the sea and shore line. It is frequented by dog walkers mostly. There is a lot less human traffic than on Sandymount Strand. It is a decent distance there and back. So, you get a respectable amount of exercise. A geat place to get away from it all for an hour.
