There was no church of any denomination in Terenure until the second half of the 19th Century. Previous to that, the churches in Rathfarnham were sufficient for the local populations at the time. In 1865, the V. Rev Canon Byrne (the parish priest of Rathfarnham at the time), set about to provide a church and school for the Terenure area. He purchased a large field near Terenure crossroads as the site and this is where St. Jospeh's Church stands today. In 1916, Fr. John Healy became parish priest of Terenure. His greatest work for the parish was the erection in 1920 of a truly magnificent three-light stained glass crucifixion window behind the altar, one of the great masterpieces of Harry Clark.

Sure I did my first penance, first communion, I was confirmed and married here I'd have to recommend it.

Only thing is they painted the beautiful external timber doors a few years ago and they do't look as nice as they could.
