Even after a store make-over recently in 2012 the poor hygiene at the bread counter in Superquinn Blackrock is unchanged i.e.

1. No gloves provided for the handling of fresh bread. So, for example when it comes to buying the turnover style bread which is baked as one; one has to grab a section and pull them apart, quite possibly with dirty hands. I happen to observe this occurring on several occasions and, made this known to staff many times, with no result.
2.No tongs provided either.

Disgraceful lack of hygiene, in this day and age!

I work in the area so I pop in here a lot for some generally food shopping or lunch etc. I find the shop reasonably well laid out and they usually have all or most of what I am looking for, which of course helps to make the shopping experience that little bit more pleasant. The one gripe I have (and I imagine it's not particular to this store) is with the fresh breads section. The section is well stocked - fresh and often still warm bread of many kinds BUT you're almost guaranteed someone else has touched your bread or you have to touch someone else's bread to get what you want. If there are gloves, they are well hidden or not used, or else there are none and perhaps no tongs either. A small thing but completely unnecessary if you ask me. It doesn't put me off going though as otherwise I have no problem with the shop though I choose my bread carefully!
