Dating back to 1198, The Brazen Head is Ireland's oldest pub. When you consider that licensing laws only came into effect in 1635, this pub has been serving alcohol before offical licensing laws were even enacted. A short walk from Christchurch Cathedral and The Guinness Brewery, The Brazen Head is well worth a visit for both its historic value and reputation as one of the best Irish music venues.

The Brazen Head is a real landmark and is one of the oldest pubs in Dublin - it's a great place for pints and to bring tourists to, I can't comment on the food as I've never tried it. The only issue for me is the hassle of trying to get there but I doubt the oldest pub in Dublin is going to relocate anytime soon so I won't deduct a star for that - a four star watering hole in my opinion but sounds like from Caitriona W's review that the jury's still out on the food!

What a dump!

Thin soup. Squashed paninis. Coffee like ditchwater.

While on jury service I was obliged to eat here a number of times and it was really poor quality. I could have gone elsewhere at my own expense and would have done so exept that I might have missed some discussions relevent to the case being tried.

To top it all they have a cosy arrangement with the courts to have the jury lunch contract which probably brings in at least 600 euro per jury per week that the court sits. €15 per juror per lunch is a total rip off and a waste of taxpayers' money. The third day we went here our food was really late arriving and we had to race back to the court. We mentioned this to the court Registrar and the following day we were greeted at the door and told that we would not have the full menu any more: only soup and one of two main courses followed by tea/coffee. We should have argued that a precedent had already been set by their having served us the full menu before.....but there wasn't a barrister in sight (or on site probably because they were eating in nice places).

It was a long, long time since I'd been to the Brazen Head and I'll never go back.
It's piggybacking on being the oldest hostelry in Dublin and fleecing tourists and taxpayers alike.
