For a very long time the Hungry Monk was the best restaurant around North Wicklow (in my opinion anyway). That it isn't now reflects more the increasing competition for the title than any drop in quality here. We arrive in a party of seven including one small child. There had been a mistake in the reservation and the child had been left out. No problem, an additional setting was quickly added to the table. Service was prompt and friendly (including some help with the extensive wine list and topping up of water and wine glasses throughout the meal). And the food: starters included Scallops, Lamb Kidney Dijonaise (my particular favourite), Woodpigeon served rare, and a Celeriac Soup with creme fraiche. All of which were fantastic. My main was Venison haunch cooked rare with a potato hash and cherry sauce. Beautiful. Desserts were also lovely (mine was a vanilla and honeycomb creme brulee).
So summary, child friendly, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and gorgeous food.
