The Iveagh Gardens are among the finest and least known of Dublin's parks and gardens. They were designed by Ninian Niven, in 1865, and it brings together 'French Formal' and the 'English Landscape' styles. The Iveagh Gardens displays a unique collection of landscape features; rustic grotto's and cascading sunken lawns are just some of the landscaping features to be admired here. In more recent times, the gardens have played host to important local events like the 'Taste of Dublin' festival.

Given how much attention St. Stephen's Green receives, the Iveagh Gardens don't get anywhere near as much love as they should. They're arguably a much better place to sit and hang out on a beautiful sunny day, because there's much more open space and grass to relax on (and non of it's fenced off and guarded by patrolling lawn-keepers, as bits of the Green are).

Sure, it's not the most interesting piece of grassland in the city centre, but it's definitely up there with the best of them, and it tends to be a little quieter than Merrion Square, so it gets my vote!

Keywords: quiet, peaceful, relaxing

There is a distinct lack of leaves in this area. It may have other flora such as gorse bushes or flowers but living in dublin is all about the all important leaves per square kilometre and on this count the iveagh garden flops.
