I'm not sure I agree with Mike B on this one. I think it's a grand pub but it's a bit all over the place lay-out wise. As for the food I was very disappointed with the cod I had, while it was a decent sized piece of fish it was completely tasteless as was the salad it was sitting on which wasn't even dressed. A potato or two on the plate wouldn't have gone astray either, especially for €15. I think there are lots of other local pubs in the area that have a nicer feel to them.
Watched the tail-end of the Munster V Leinster game here on Saturday night, the Guinness was of a good standard and the food was excellent. I had a sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection... as pub grub goes this is as good as it gets. While it's a good place to watch a match, I think the screens could be positioned that bit better and a couple more sprinkled around the place wouldn't go astray. We were upstairs and had to watch the match on a TV downstairs through the banisters and a large light hanging from the ceiling. Television issues aside, this is a really decent gastro-pub!
I hadn't been here for a few years, but I had pints and dinner here last Friday and it was great! I had a burger, which was really good, and many pints of Paulaner. Having lounge staff makes the whole thing more relaxing, and I was pleased to see that they are just as attractive as I had remembered.
this is a handy spot for a couple of drinks and a bite to eat, parking is nearby in the church grounds if one of you is driving so it works out quite well. it's comfy inside with plenty of seating, and the food really is good, definitely leaves you thinking you'll go again. i had the fillet steak/mushroom sauce and it was superb, everything you would expect and hope from a good steak. nice cold white wine too!!
