I ate here one night (on a Monday); it was late and we were the last ones in the door but the service didn't suffer and was still with a smile. I was impressed with the quality of the food. It was all perfect, especially their mini burgers which were savage. The place is small and cosy with a few little alcoves to get some privacy, and the night we were in it was full of Spanish people, which I'm sure is a good thing. I'd definitely return but wouldn't order as much ;)
I've been meaning to try this place for ages but you've got to choose your time carefully as you can't book ahead and being such a popular spot it's hard to get a table at weekends. The restaurant is below street level so no windows which makes for a lovely cosy atmosphere with candles literally everywhere, perfect for a freezing winter's evening. The gambas pil-pil was definitely the highlight for me, it was a really generous portion and they were delicious. The rest of the food though I didn't think was anything spectacular, the patatas bravas were a little bland and disappointing and I couldn't help thinking that if they can't get the most basic tapas dish right then how authentic can it really be?! And other than the gambas I thought the portions were a bit on the tiny side for the prices being charged. Saying all that, it's a lovely place and I'd definitely go back....but a little tip - don't go starving!!
"A tiny cavernous tapas and wine bar beautifully lit by candles", as Mary H. so eloquently put it. For me, this was the best tapas I've tasted outside of Barcelona and the atmosphere here is second to none. What I like about tapas is that it seems to be fueled by indecisiveness, you don't need to commit to steak, seafood or chicken... you just order them all (yay!)... and if you don't like what you ordered you pawn it off on an unsuspecting pal and order again! It was a Sunday evening when I went here and wasn't drinking but I'd like to go back and make an evening of it: tapas, wine & port - not sure if I get the port thing though as I would have thought that had Portuguese connotations (but maybe that's just me!). With all the candle action going on, this place would make a great venue for a first, second or subsequent dates! Just remember you can't book a table in advance so a plan B might be in order... Also if it's a first date and you order the steak (cooked in garlic) make sure your partner at least tries it - by no means go solo on this one, you've been warned!!
A tiny cavernous tapas and wine bar beautifully lit by candles. Really great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was a little hit and miss. Between 4 of us we ordered about 10 dishes. The calamari was delicious, potatas bravas dull and pepito solomio tiny. The wine menu was good though and the chocolate fondue dessert great for sharing! I would give it another try. Note - They don't take bookings.
