The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 70's and a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists. In 2005 there were mutterings about the end of an era – but these concerns were abated when in 2006 the Thomas Read Group set about bringing this much-loved Bookshop & Restaurant back to life. The Bookshop continues in the same format as before, with plenty of second-hand books, unusual new publications and a terrific range of children's books. Upstairs the restaurant has maintained the nostalgic ambiance of the famous building and specialises in a simple, high quality Irish cooking with an organic direction and extensive wine list.

Great restaurant that serves Traditional Irish food, done right! It's not on the cheap side, but the food is bloody gorgeous. They've a great few variations on the "meat and two veg" formula, and it always tastes delicious. They also have a really nice selection of seafood.

The ingredients are always fresh, the food's always delicious and it's rare that it gets too hectic, so you never feel rushed or stressed out while you're there. It's an absolutely brilliant location too, which always helps. Perfect if you want to unwind with a hearty meal and a glass of wine after spending the day in town.

I was expecting nice food at The Winding Stair, but they exceeded those expectations by a long way. The food was outstanding; comfort food done to a very high level of quality. Both starters, chicken livers with bacon and a smoked duck salad, were delicious, as were the main courses of hake fillet and braised beef cheek. The star of the show was the orange sorbet served with the chocolate and chestnut cake for desert. Incredible flavour. The service was friendly, relaxed and accommodating, and the price was very reasonable for this standard of dining. Definitely worth a trip.
