Food at The Troc is simple and by simple we mean served without pretension - there's everything you'd expect to find in a fine pre-theatre restaurant - favourites such as steak and chips. Traditional cooking made with the very best Irish ingredients. All the ingredients are sourced and bought locally.

I was disappointed with my first and only visit to this restaurant. First impressions were great, I loved the decor and the buzz of the place, it's definitely a blast from the past but that was really where it ended. The restaurant was packed which was fine but as a result (I presume) the service was incredibly slow and we waited a long time for our food to arrive and when it did I thought it was very overpriced for what we got. Nowadays a restaurant needs to do more than rely on its reputation to keep the punters happy!

I'd tend to largely agree with Helena about this place. It's oldy-worldy on the inside - both decore & staff - that's not to say the staff are all old, they just have an old-style manner (genuinely pleasant). It was busy enough but we didn't have to wait to be seated. Our waiter was a nice guy, attentive not annoying.

The menu's not extensive, but covers the main bases (chicken, beef, fish). I had the sirloin steak with a peppercorn sauce - nice and tasty. I don't think the price is too far off the mark either at €28 for a 10ozer. They have a pre-theatre menu which I think was €25 for three courses but it's a slightly cut-down version.

Overall a good night in pleasant surroundings. I'll be back.
