I've been here a few times and thoroughly enjoyed it as a venu. Mostly I was at comedy shows so be advised to stay away from the front seats lest you be drawn into the show as an involuntary stooge.
Amy is right - the bar is something else.

I went to see Des Bishop here last night, it was my first time in Vicar Street and really enjoyed it.
It's an intimate "pillar-less" venue which means there's not a bad seat in the house. The Des Bishop gig was all seating - I was sitting on a stool at one of the small tables which I thought was cool (as it gave the place a real old skool blues club feel) but after sitting on the stool for a while my back began to get sore which wasn't so cool.
Good bar facilities and quirky decor also added to the overall feel of the place. Vicar Street is one of the best venues in Dublin in my opinion and one of the few places you can really enjoy a pint while watching a show.

I was here last Friday night for the first time at a gig and it is certainly one of the better venues I've been to in Dublin. The actual venue is good and the intimate layout and effect is excellent - makes for a very engaging experience. The bar is nice too and the location is good, though I'm sure some places like the Academy will win on that one. Worth a visit certainly.

Vicar Street is my favourite venue in Dublin, and usually presents the best artists. The big attraction for me is the size of the auditorium, which is small enough that you never feel you are far from the stage but big enough that the atmosphere is always as good as some of the bigger venues around Dublin, if not better!
For those who prefer to sit at gigs (or who made the mistake of wearing heals!) there are a number of rows of seats around all three walls surrounding the stage, as well as on the balcony above. For select artists, such as comedians, the floor in front of the stage is covered with small lamp-lit tables surrounded by stools, which for me is the perfect set-up for the mellower gig.
The only reason I deducted one star is that two of my friends (who are shorter than me) had difficulty viewing the stage at the last gig I went to.
The bar in Vicar Street is an attraction in itself, and probably deserves a separate review!
