The Victoria Fountain described by architectural historian Peter Pearson in his book 'Kingstown' as: "a beautiful monument, a defenseless symbol of the bygone age", was erected to commemorate Queen Victoria's visit to Dún Laoghaire in 1900. The fountain was manufactured by Walter McFarland & Co. Ltd., Glasgow, which has since ceased trading.
