Reviews for Wrights Dispensary Bistro
Write a Review Wrights Dispensary Bistro reviews feedOn Sunday we decided to go to Dalkey on the dart for a change & a nice bite to eat. As soon as we came out of the dart station we stumbled upon Wrights Dispensary so we said we would give it a try especially as Wrights in Swords is our local! The place is really cosy with a lovely atmosphere, really enjoyed all the different choices of food and the portions were perfect for 2. The wine menu had alot of choice, we enjoyed a few galsses of wine & it was the perfect end to a nice Sunday out in Dalkey!

I too am unbiased, not in the businness and my nose is not out of joint. Read my review again and you will see that I hope it's successful. I wish the best for any new business!
Your original review reads like a press release, so please…
Sorry to burst your little conspiracy theory bubble there Mac C but my review is un-biased and I stand over it. I've no affiliation with this place.
I usually review on Yelp but seeing as Rate My Area is local and Irish (to the best of my knowledge) I chose this for my first review and to clarify I don't know anyone in Rate my Area either!!!
My memory of the hostess was a good one, she was very attentive and friendly.
You seem to be very knowledgeable on the dining front so I bow to your better judgement. I had a good time so let's leave it at that. A nice local place opening up? Why shouldn't I be positive?
You and others seem very annoyed with this place so I wonder why?
I have heard through the village grapevine that a few noses are out of joint about its opening which would explain a lot of the reviews below. But sure what would us public know anyway??
4 of us booked a table a week in advance. Upon arrival, the manageress was not very friendly and looked thru her folder to find our reservation. At one point I thought she was going to say we had no booking !. We were brought upstairs and it was full (9 pm booking).
Good things; Food was nice altho no prawns or calamari which you would expect in a tapas restaurant. Courgettes was nice, chorizo potatoes nice. Wine good altho expensive . 3 bottles at €34 each. Atmosphere was busy and buzzing
Bad things. We couldnt read our menus because it was sooo dark. I dont even wear glasses and had to hold the menu up towards the light. Tables way too small. We had to put wine on the floor and water also. My coat was put on the floor / back of my chair. We were not asked for our coats to be hung up. The singer if you can call it that came on later in the area at the back of the upstairs. Never have I heard such drivel. If it was jazz or something classy, it would have been much nicer !...Toilet...can you believe there is ONE toilet for women ???? Wrights spent so much money doing up this building and they didnt think to make the bathroom a statement ?
Had a fab meal there last night, the place was hopping with loads of atmosphere!
All the staff were so welcoming & professional.
Excellent house wine French Sauvignon Blanc at only €24 - a steal. Food really well priced! A great addition to the Dalkey restaurant scene.
Loved the chicken kebabs with basil alioi & the deep fried courgettes, its great they also do 2 main course specials, you have to try the meringue desert its to die for!
Well done!

all i can say is 'wow' ........ food , ambiance and service top class ..... lovely selection of wine ...... my favourite tapas style restaurant ... have been twice already and will be back for more! I am a restaurant owner myself and went to see the place out of curiosity but was very impressed.
We ate here last night and personally had such a lovely experience. The decor was very well done, and we personally found the service was excellent. We were just out for walk and decide to drop in have something like to eat!... The food was so good, and so full of flavour, and extremely reasonibly prices! I highly highly recommend it! I personally found the staff to be very smily and pleasant to us!
We had the unfortunate experience of eating there last night and will not be returning. We brought our friend there for her birthday and was very disappointed. I would completely agree with Karen O the staff were extremely rude and and Manger equally so. I can't understand how the place is doing so well but i do think unless they change their attitude that people will start avoiding the place. I know of a few people who have been there and all have the same opinion on the staff, rude arrogant and cocky. The food was good, desserts were extremely poor, wine massively over priced and staff rude. Over all the place has left a bad taste in my mouth.

This restaurant looks as if it has great potential. There seemed to be a lovely atmosphere inside, however we are unsure of either of the above and also the quality of the food. The reason? An extremely rude manager. When we entered the restaurant she rudely told us that it was "all booked up". Her body language and also the terse blunt manner in which she spoke to us was very impolite and not welcoming at all. It was only afterwards when sitting in another restuarant down the road that we all commented on this. Already, we have been put off returning to the restaurant. It does not take much for someone to be manerly and polite. We are locals to the area for over 30 years and know many of the local business, however we have never been "looked down on" in such a rude manner. This is very unfortunate, as we would have returned and tried out the food had this not happend. Going out for a meal is about the food, the company and the friendliness of the staff. Definitely one of these three main ingredients was missing. Dissapointing especially for a new business.

Good to see a new place opening and good to see the management leaving its first review!!!
Give us some credit and let the public leave the reviews - "They make a point of explaining they pour 4 glasses from a bottle as opposed to the usual scabby 5 " LOL! The absoloute majority of places pour 4!
"Whilst dining there last Thursday night I spotted a few famous locals (ahem, you know who) so expect the glitterati to descend on this joint fairly lively.
I'll be back if I can manage to get a table." Give me a break!!!!
I do hope it goes well and from outside it looks really nice so I will go and try it out and hopefully I like it as Dalkey needs some new faces. The magpieinn place opening in the old "In" could be good too but time will tell if either are worth all the 'praise'…
Brand new Tapas style Restaurant/Late Bar in the heart of Dalkey village was always going to be a welcome addition. Dalkey has been crying out for something like this and with competitively priced booze being served till the wee hours The Dispensary's arrival is something of a god send for those who are jaded with the same ol same ol watering holes. No offence Finnegans!
The menu is reasonably priced with hearty portions and a stonkingly good wine list, all available by the glass.
The deep fried Courgettes, the Garlic Prawns, Goat Cheese & Beetroot Salad are but a few highlights. The Chicken Chorizo is also a winner. Washed down with some ripe and juicy Malbec there was just enough room to cram in some cheese which had to be shared there was so much.
Tapas are priced between €5-€9 and they have options of larger portions and mains, usually specials of the day. Cheapest glass approx €6 and the portions are generous. They make a point of explaining they pour 4 glasses from a bottle as opposed to the usual scabby 5.

I'll be back if I can manage to get a table.
